Home cures



You'd put sugar on swede and you'd have the juice.

We'd boil onions for colds, but I went down with pneumonia the next day.

I was always getting colds and Don's dad would make me pin a square of camphor to the inside of my clothes.

I remember cod liver oil and syrup of figs.

We had bread fried in cod liver oil. Ugh!

We had Fenny's fever cure and scotch emulsion. My sister liked one and I liked the other, so we swapped.

It was 3s 6d to call the doctor out The children had measles. The doctor sat down, had breakfast, sterilised the needle and gave them a jab.
